My original engine developed rod knock problems after 256k of hard driving. Still had the original head gasket, timing chain, and turbo though, had not been opened. The old turbo thus was transfered onto the new low mileage engine with about 105k miles on it, new rod bearings were put in the engine, new water pump, everything resealed and Mobil 1 synthetic put in the engine. I'm sure hoping it's good for 150k-200k miles! Still wasn't cheap, but it did undercut the price of my automatic-manual transmission conversion about four years ago, by about $500, making this only the second most expensive repair my car has had.
Now the question is, how long will the head gasket on this engine last with 21 psi max boost? Some speculate as little as 30k miles, but who knows? I only get to use boost much on the weekends.. Ah well if it shows signs of weakening, time for a copper gasket and O-ring the block..
I'm hoping for about 190-200 HP at the wheels, thus 9000 Aero territory for at the crank HP (225HP). Dyno run coming up later this summer...
