I have 225's on my 88 SPG & it works great with minimal rubbing. SAS air bags on soon! I would concentrate on getting the best tires you can & see how that goes. Be it SO-3's, P-Zero's, AVS Sport/S1/etc, T1S's, or whatever. You could also look at a competition tire like the Yokohama A032R which is a race track tire but can & is easily driveable on the street!
Also, if you do go with aftermarket rims you will want to get some light rims to reduce the unsprung weight as much as you can. Many times aftermarket rims weigh 30+lbs w/o tires & you want under 20 lbs per corner.
