Here's one opinion otherwise (only slighly Devil's Advocate) :)

Hey, before my Saab, all I'd ever driven were carbureted American and Japanese vehicles. Let me tell you, the LH2.2 in my Saab is GRRRREAT ! Starts the first time every time (when the ignition is working, that is), runs smooth, even still runs great after I've doubled the stock boost levels, AND gets noticeably better mileage than my Honda did.
Plus, so far, it's been cheaper to maintain. Yes, I spent $200 on an AMM (paid too much but what are you gonna do), few bucks to clean out the AIC and throttle body, injector cleaner in the gas tank every so often. I'll take that over a $600 carburetor rebuild any day..both my Honda plus my Dad's Honda required that..
Of course, maybe it sucks compared to an aftermarket fuel injection system, but as the saying goes - if it ain't broke... first I'd need to see a problem that warrants spending $1000 and can't be fixed by replacing a few parts.
