Hesitation and Spark plug gap recommendation

The car idles fine, and starts in the morning with no problem. But when getting onto the motorway(freeway) I had such an annoying trip. It was hesitating the faster I drove. It felt like I was running out of petrol, for it ws jerking every time I pressed the gas pedal for more speed.
The only change I have done is put an induction kit in place of the old air box, and I have used the original trunking for cold air.
I am using the Haynes manual recommendation of Champion plugs and their gap settings. It has been in the car less than a year.
Do I need an up rated fuel regulator to cope with the extra air flow?
Or changing to NGK will solve the problem. What is the proper gap setting for NGK BCP7EV?
If NGK is recommended, why does the Haynes manual suggest Champion instead?
