the ECU, combined with a Saber cat-back exhaust, K&N filter and a
modified air intake box enabled my Auto-Aero to obtain 221 Hp and 256
ft-lbs of torque at the rear wheels on a dyno. It delivers the power
across the existing power band. Max torque is around 2500 rpm and max
hp is at about 5000. It is seriously quick and the added power is THERE
all the time. Even with the auto gearbox, one must be careful with the
throttle to prevent wheel spin around 2500 rpm in both 1st and 2nd. It
will spin the tires at will when it's wet. I have floored the throttle
at 3000 rpm in 3rd gear (55-60 mph) and had the tires spin, when wet.
It produces mor power by increasing the boost. Along with increasing the
boost it has to supply more fuel and alter the timing map to suppress knock.
I have over 20,000 miles on my ECU, no problems.
BUT... as Zeke mentioned, the Abbott system changes the base boost setting
from a stock 5-6 psi to 10-12 psi. It reduces the range of boost cut-back
if knock is detected. I believe Abbott has added sufficient fuel/timing
changes to minimize the possibility of knock, but you will never know.
It is more economical to send your ECU directly to Abbott UK rather than
go through Dan at ARM. I don't know how Abbott USA compares.
If I were to do it again, I would look at Swedish tuners who leave the
base boost intact. It just seems safer.
But the added power is really impressive.
