Not true. The Abbott K&N is an exact fit for the Viggen. It appears that you can obtain the Viggen filter from any reseller of K&N products. I don't recall the Saab part number for the Viggen but when I checked it was one of the two listed below. Note that you can look this up at K&N's web site.
Included below is a posting from alt.saab,
Don't know if this information will be helpful to anyone, but thought I'd
share just in case. If you're looking for a K&N airfilter for your 9-3
these are the part numbers you'll need as nobody seems to have a current K&N
catalog.
If your stock air filter part # is: 4236030 (this number is actually stamped
on the filter itself) the K&N # is: 33-2166
If your stock air filter part # is: 4876074, the K&N# is: 33-2165
The average price I found from 3 or 4 different online distributors was
around $45.00 direct from K&N to your doorstep. Pep Boys, Auto Zone,
Kragen, & Discount Auto Parts (my local auto parts stores) all wanted from
$55 to $75, a 5 day wait and then you had to pick it up from them, which was
totally ridiculous.
Anyway, after I install it, I'll post whether or not I think it's worth it.
I've heard conflicting stories, but the overall consensus seems to be that
the (supposed) 8hp increase is only slightly noticeable. We'll see.
