My reprinted post/example explains y i had thought SR was most significant. It does change which way spindle rotates about KPI, based on +/- scrub radius. I also admitted SL was likely dominant as you pointed out.
I agree with your analysis conclusion, but not the math. please explain:
" T sin KPI " how is this a moment on the spindle about the KPI? I guess if hub bearings were seazed...
" T * sin KPI + T/R * SR = 0 " why must the sum be zero ... no steering knuckle?
" R sin KPI + SR is equal to the Spindle length if we use small angle approximations for sin KPI. " no way, as I see it, for very small angles SL=SR, as you noted. Actual relation is SL=SR+RtanKPI
My analysis sums moments about KPI, and sets it equal to net torque (Tn) reacted by steering arm of spindle, thru rack and pinion.
