induction kit warning for Bosh LH injection

I have an 87' saab 9000 SE auto turbo. This came with the bosh LH injection with airmass meter.
I fitted a cone K&N induction filter into the wheel well. It looked brillant, and was happy with its construction.
I noticed straight away this made the induction roar louder, the turbo spooled up just under 3000rpm (it use to come on @ 3500rpm), and the dumping of pressure was louder. (All of this I was happy with)
After a couple of weeks I noticed my low down torque was getting pretty bad and that my petrol consumption for town had fallen from 18.2 mpg to 17.5 mpg.
The final straw was when I took it onto the motorway, as soon as I joined the motorway (freeway) the car jerked, as if running out of petrol, and this got worse the faster I went. Usual petrol consumption was 18.6 mpg, now 17.7 @ 60 mph.
I consulted the 9000 message board which said try injector cleaner, use NGK plugs with correct gap, check for air leaks, check other electrical components. Which I did, but to no avail.
I took it to Abbott racing UK, who promptly told me the airbox is needed for certain velocities for the turbo to work efficiently, and that is why it ran badly and drank a lot of petrol.
I had the airbox fitted back with an ITG filter. My mpg is starting to creep up (17.8 mpg) but it is still occasionally jerking as if it were losing petrol. I'll have to see if it gets better.
So be careful when getting an induction kit for the bosh system!!!
