Yes it is true. I have a moderately "modified" 86 900 SPG that had some issues overall but with the help of Brad at George's Imports and the AQUAMIST water injection system + some tweaks, new AMM, adjusted RRFPR and wastegate. I was finally able to get it to run 200bhp at approximately 5100rpm at the wheels. So conservatively at the crank it should be around 210 – 230bhp depending on the loses with gears and ratio. Still what an improvement and I have no detonation at 21# boost. The larger turbo compressor takes longer to get up to speed with my current exhaust set up (2.5" with high flow cat) but once she kicks in here we go and we go until it red lines. I drive a lot of highway and cruise at 70 or greater and this is just perfect for my power band. My acceleration in 5Th gear is amazing. The turbo just keep giving the engine as much as she needs. IF I am in lower gears I need to get her into 3500-4000 to get a quick spool. A little lag compared to the t3 Garrett but I am greatly satisfied with the work and the new products.
Of course the wife is not happy at all with the money I dropped, and it will take awhile to pay for all the work, but the ghost is back. The love / hate Saab continuum is pegged on the happy factor meter. Now for some cheap cosmetics (headliner. etc) and some suspension upgrades until I can pay it off the current bill then I can go for the 3" exhaust, new wastegas downstream depositing system, ported/flowed head, larger injectors, racing cams, etc…
Cheers and Happy Saabing
