The following comments says it all about sab handling although I think the performance aspect has changed somewhat....

The comments were made by saab in a advertising pamphlet for the old Saab 93 (the 1960s car, not the 2000 car!!) I love the bit about the 'carefully balanced understeer, and adding an extra cylinder!!


Carefully balanced
"under steer" has been obtained by the use
of a special type of rigid rear axle in
combination with independent front wheel
springing.

Our new 3-cylinder engine has an output of
38 h.p. at 5,000 rpm and a maximum
torque of 52 ft.-lbs. at 2,000 rpm. Coil
springs are fitted all round and all moving
parts are fixed to the body by some form of
rubber attachment.



High engine output has been attained by
increasing the number of cylinders to three
without increasing the total cubic capacity.
The cylinder head is an aluminum alloy.

the fan forces air through it. Cooling-system
capacity is sufficient for continuous city
driving in the hottest weather.
Our decision to use water cooling instead of
air cooling was greatly influenced by the
wish to provide a really effective heating
parts than are occasioned by low rpm and

roads at speeds approaching the car's
maximum. Under favorable conditions, such
as slight down gradients or following winds,
the endurance of the engine can be utilised
to drive at speeds considerably in excess of
the car's maximum level-ground, still-air speed
without danger of damaging the engine.
