'86 SPG is blowing oil out the dipstick tube. How screwed am I? Posted by IrieTom [Email] (#1032) [Profile/Gallery] (more from IrieTom) on Sun, 8 Jul 2001 14:22:49 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I heard a clattering this morning when I started the car, so I poked around to do the usual vacuum hose/fluid level check. There was oil splattered around which had been blown out of the dipstick tube, and when I added some more, it spat right back out at me.
I drove 50 miles last night, and the only thing I noticed was that the car started hard and didn't catch strong (I had to give it a little gas- unusual.) I was cranking the stereo with the windows down for the drive, so I couldn't hear any difference.
What are the possible causes for this behavior? Could a gasket have slid across an oil passage somehow? Can it be as simple as a crankcase ventilation problem?
I'm scared and don't want to drive the 50 miles home unless I can positively identify the problem and it's severity.
Thanks in advance.
