This is in response to your post about the Datsun that i bought. Well the car that i bought already had weber carbs and the emission system had been scrapped and the air-pump unhooked. It also came with 5 shelby cobra magnesium wheels (14in) but some junky no name tires. Well low and behold i find out that this guy from my church builds and races Datsuns and he has a formula ford liscense and is heavily involved in SCCA and other racing organizations. So he takes me to his garage where he has built a custom lift to do a frame off restoration to his 72 240Z. Well before i know it he kinda has took it upon himself to be my mentor. Well so from here on out is where the fun happens here are the upgrades:
Poly urethene bushings (everywhere)
KYB 5 way adjustable shocks
Eibach Springs
Header and complete exhaust
Mallorys distributor
MSD blaster coil-wires,plugs
Complete tune-up of carbs and correction to proper timing
3.90 rearend from '83 Datsun 280
Turbo cylinder head with port and polish
5sp tranny from '83 Datsun 280
Adjustable camber front and rear
possibly a kevlar clutch just all depends on how much i drive it
Oh and the coolest part is his policy is that if he is going to build my car up i have to watch him, then we will go out and run it come back and he will screw things up like the carbs or something and have me fix it. Best of all since he knows how to DRIVE he is going to teach me advanced (for me) techniques such as double-clutching. I think i will learn a lot and it is not going to break the bank we have it budgeted over the next year or so. Check this out-even the old man is cool about it. This is the closest to a sports car as i have ever driven and he enjoys it and is glad i treat it well. Don't let the '73 scare you it has all new frame rails and unlike most Datsuns has little rust and only 79,000 miles on orig engine. Daves goal (i am skeptical...but he does build race Datsuns) is to 60 in 5 sec 1/4 mi in 13.5. Cool thing is he will have a lot of this done so that i can still get a few SCCA solo races in before i go to school...but i am also privliged that my college has an SCCA chapter although it seems to be a bunch of ricers and redneck camaros...it will be interesting pulling up in a 240Z. Most people have no idea what kind of car it is...Is that an old Porshe?, Is that an old Ferrari? Datsun...who??
Oh well thank-you for all you have taught me (even though your bitter) and the patience you have shown. Apologize for the length.
Thanks
Chris C.
