Left Culpeper Va. around 6:30 a.m. yesterday and blasted out at an average hwy speed of about 75 -- set cruise to 80 for most of the way. Wifeometer got a little into the red zone when ever I passed traffic at 95, so keeping it to 80 was the norm. She was cool with that.
Radar detector -- a 15 year old antique with only X and K bands, no Ka (guess I like livin' on the edge...) only went off in Illinois just outside St. Louis last night.
BTW, Mike 87 900s, in we're in Ill. WAAAAY down south on I-64 into St. L. On the way back I plan on taking I-70 all the way back. Any chance you'll be towards Springfield? Love to see your S. My last ride was an '88 S. Bought it new in '88 and just sold it last year. I miss it. May buy it back...
Nothing really remarkible so far on this ride. Only saw 4 other Saabs yesterday: passed a yellow '83 4 door base south of Staunton, Va.; passed an 9-3 coupe like it was standing still somewhere in W. Va.; saw a 9-3 conv. in Indiana going east, and a 9000 CD also going east just outside St. Louis.
Wife and I took 3 hour shifts driving, set the SID alarm and it turns out that it just about coincided with bio- and gas-breaks. Got into St. Louis right at 6:30 and immediately did the tourist thing and went up into the Arch. Cool.
Lodged here in town and should be back on the road soon.
The Talladega was a blast. Nice smooth ride. My wife took the car into S&S Auto to get the wheels spin balanced and rotated day-before-yesterday while I was on yet another road trip, this time for business, and it felt like driving on glass. (BTW, she had a pretty cool encounter with another Saaber while there. More on that on another posting...)
The mods had virtually no ill effects on the long drive. In fact I think it vastly improved it. The boost was strong all day, and the VRK really made the car "stick" nicely.
'Nuff said. More later. Gotta hit the road!
Jim M.
