Here is the only problem I can see. Increasing the size of an exhaust reduces resistance of flow. However increasing size also reduces velocity. Exhaust velocity is important. Think about it, with high velocity a supercharger effect is created. When the exhaust valve opens high velocity will create a vacuum inside of the cylinder, the valve closes and a vacuum remains. The intake valve opens and air rushes in to fill the void of the present vacuum and the one that the downward movement of the cylinder creates. Loosing velocity will reduce this effect which is less apparent at high rpm's. But with a turbo I agree with you guys.
