... I've got a few comments and questions:
I put Aero wheels and Kumho 712 in 225/45/17 on my 2001 93SE 5door.
First, to anyone else who might be considering putting 17" wheels on their 9-3, but are hesitant because they are concerned about ride comfort, I say, do it! The ride does seem to be a little stiffer; there are bumps that I didn't notice before. But its definitely in more of a "I can feel what the road is doing" way more than a "I wish I didn't feel that" way.
The handling is incredible... its probably mostly the tires (switched from the Eagle RSAs that were stock), but the car sticks to the road *much* better now. The tires are much quieter too... those damned RSAs squealed at the slightest provocation.
Now the questions:
What tire pressure are people using? I had them inflated to 35psi, and the front looks a little bowed from the extra weight. After they heat up its not as noticable.
When cornering, the back end kind of wiggles a bit -- its hard to explain, but if anyone else has experienced it I'm sure they'll know what I mean. I turn the wheel while moving quickly, and a split second later, the back end kind of slides a little bit. My best guess is that its a sidewall stiffness issue with the Kumhos. Has anyone else noticed this? Any suggested work-arounds, or should I just get used to it?
I'm just thrilled at how much fun my car is to drive again! Now that I've been bitten by the upgrade/tweak bug, I'm torn as to whether to do the exhaust next, or shocks/springs... advice on that front, anyone?
thanks!
