I have a '95 9000 Aero and just went through this. Some (most?) models have clips flip out from the seat bottoms to hold down the backs. They must have left these out of Aero models to prevent damage to the seats; I can't see any other reason why.
I just made a trip cross country with A LOT of stuff and had to get as much room as possible. I first put down some plastic trash bags to prevent the asphalt deadening material on the floor from getting on the leather. I think there's supposed to be some kind of protector there looking at the picture, but maybe mine was removed? Anyway, I then got some rope and tied it across the seat backs from the cargo tie down "D" ring in the trunk to the bar attached to the seat bottom (visible in the picture). I also put some rolled up plastic bag between the seat back and the rope at the top to protect the leather. I didn't force them down all the way, but close enough to flat.
I wouldn't put too much weight on the seat backs, but this system seemed to work fine. I had them tied down for two and a half days after which they looked a little wrinkled. They have since recovered and look pretty much the same as before. I'm sure that repeated and prolonged use of the seats in this way will wear them eventually, but it seems pretty harmless if used every once in a while. I'm still considering trying to find some used rear seats from a CSE or something so that they will fold more easily. But, then again, those Aero rear seats just look so cool!
