I live in Verona, which is southwest of Madison by a hundred yards or so :)

I don't know who owns the SPG you mentioned. As for the Saab scene in Madison, there isn't a club that I know of. The Saab dealership, Zimbrick, is questionable. They have Saab, BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Hyundai all under one roof. They occasionally have parts I'm looking for, but mostly have to order stuff. I've gone mail order for almost everything. Service is expensive there and they've done things like rebuild my 900 front calipers without installing that kit to keep them from chattering while braking while backing up, etc.

I go to Dunn's Import in Middleton (831-6400) for things I don't do myself. He knows Saabs fairly well, probably knows other import makes better, though.

Top ten car things I've learned about Madison:
1. Nobody does mandrel bending for exhaust fabrication.
2. They put so much salt on the street that, after the snow is all melted, there are still salt granules on the road, so much that you can skid on them.
3. Pahl tire company (near the capitol square) sucks. They know nothing about Saabs except how to pronounce the word.
4. Traffic enforcement is sporadic, but they do have ticketing campaigns that are sometimes announced in advance.
5. A good auto parts store is, um, um, well, I don't know of a single one. Actually, the Bumper to Bumper in east Madison (241-0606 - call and ask for driving directions) isn't bad. For a good selection of metric fasteners, including stainless, I go to Ace Hardware in Verona. The hardware stores in Madison aren't so well stocked.
6. For auto body - Quality Collision Repair (256-6500). They aren't inexpensive or some unlikely thing like that, but they do a great job.
7. Never park your Saab at the UW auto pool, should you be taking a UW car on official business or whatever. Unless, of course, you like six dings per day put into the side of your car.
8. I've never had a problem parking my car at the airport.
9. Madison drivers follow the "rule of 37", which is that they drive 37 mph whether the speed limit is 15 (school zone) or 45. For a speed limit of 55 on a country road, they drive between 44 and 50, 55 on the beltline gets you 62, and 65 on the interstate becomes 75. If you pass them in any of the above situations, which means any situation, right, you may get a look like you're crazy. Keep right except to pass? They must think that refers to intestinal problems or something. In short, low opinion of the drivers here.
10. Where to drive fast - south of town probably best, but highway 69 is pretty heavily patrolled. I have rarely seen a cop on the smaller, off the beaten track highways.

Enjoy your stay in Madison!
