SD 6 finger copper and alum flywheel for over 6 months without problems and use it pretty hard. It will give a little more grab but it wasn't anything that was hard to get used to.
I don't understand what your shop is telling you about the thicker disc since there won't be any friction when the clutch is out. If the clutch was grabbing when you had the clutch pedal in you would have seen all sorts of gears grinding when you attempted to make gear selection. If this wasn't the case, the only time the disc will see friction is when the pressure plate is trying to reach the same speed as the flywheel as when engaging the clutch from a stand still or between gears.
Did this disc have damp springs like mine and were you using it for racing?
