If the mechanic finds more major problems than you initially expected, it might be worth it to you to:
A) Sell it to one of us who can fix these things at reduced cost
B) Part it out (though I HATE parting out SPGs) I have only had to part out 1 SPG in my life. Twas a sad day. The rust had eaten it away.
Sounds like a good deal any way you slice it. I figure you can sell the wheels and panels to at least recover your cost of buying the thing if the car is a total heap. With a fresh tranny, you can sell that, too. Lots of good parts that can be easily sold to recover your cash. Good investment!
