Vince, going to a stiffer spring inside the vacuum advance unit will not help eliminate any detonation that may be occuring. A stiffer spring will create a more aggressive ignition curve which will potentially put you into a more detonation prone situation. I am not sure where you are at with your car, but from what I have seen from your posts, it seems that you are experiencing detonation on a constistent basis. Unless you eliminate this by using gasoline with a high enough octane rating, or better yet, use an Aquamist water injection system, you may always end up chasing your tail, never fully achieving the potential of your new engine. Since our cars do not have a computer controlled ignition system, any changes we make to the ignition curve now will only yield small gains. ELIMINATING DETONATION WHILE MAINTAINING PROPER A/F RATIOS SHOULD BE THE GOAL.
