I did my second drivers school & was really looking forward to toying with my friend in his cavalier. So we go to check in & they bump me up to the "B" class & not the "C" class that I thought I was going to be in. Usually it takes a couple schools to get pushed up but they said I was a good consistant driver & had a fast car :o)
Anyways, so instead of miata's, VW jetta's, GTi's, 944's, etc. Cars in my class were several WRX's, modified RX7's (race tires, dammit), cobra (replica with v-10 viper motor), new 911T & the list goes on. In other words, I was going to get SPANKED :o(
So my first session on saturday I felt really good & was holding my own & the bang!!!! Fortunantly 3 turns from the pit intrance my IC hosde popped off AGAIN!!!! I thought I fixed it so & ended that session 10+ minutes early from the 20 minutes we were alloted.
Then the 2nd session, bout 10 minutes in, in the same turn, BANG!!!! From the sound I knew what this was as well! Popped one of the grommets off the intake manifold so 5K idle was the result. At that time there was a spin out on the coarse so everyone was told to go into the pits anywas.
So, at this time I was 2 for 2! 2 sessions & 2 mechanical problems :o)
So then the 3rd session began (O yea, did I mention I picked up a cold last week) & I was going into turn 7 (slowest turn, 45 ish MPH) & spun my car. I took out some divots that a golfer would of been very proud of. I then had to go into the pits to talk to someone there (Also, instructor is in car) & nobody was there. So I did another few laps & felt my cold has effected my reacton/thinking so much that I am not aware of what I was doing. So I parked the car for the rest of the weekend. I missed 5 more sessions but I know I would of done something else stupid if I would of stayed out there.
My friend in his cavalier almost took out a S2000 which decided to blow his motor in quite dramatic fassion. My friend in his 2.2L automatic (yes, VERY SLOW) was closing in on the S2000 (5 ft behind) when the S2000 spun & made a cloud of smoke you couldn't see a foot into. 9K miles were on the odometer & it said By-By :o)
That could of been VERY messy
Then on Sunday @ supercharged 318Ti spun. A 2000 M Coupe saw that & spun there as well& sat off the coarse. A Mustang also spun out & stopped partially on the track on the end of the turn where you apex (idiot). He waited there util the flag person gave them the OK to go. Anyways, a 944T then comes through the same turn, spins out & sideswipes the mustang. Then goes head on into the M Coupe pushing the fron end back 2+feet on the M Coupe blowing the airbgs. The 944's winshield was broken & smashed the front of that 2 feet back as well.
Fortunantly nobody was hurt but it was still a very enjoyable wekend.
Now I must get some race tires. It's amazing how much better race tires are! Comparing my moded 88 SPG (200HP+ intrax, koni, 18's with Parada;s) & to my friends stock power cavailer (120HP automatic) with aftermarket springs, shocks & toyo RA-1 race tires. I would do 110 mph down the straight with a 45 mph exit speed entering the straight & 55-60 mph in turn 1
my friends cavalies would do 97 down the straight, 60+ entering the straight & 70-75 mph in turn 1 & I was taking the turn a LOT better then he was.
So he had to take off 20-25 mph braking while I had to remove 50-60 mph braking. And that only in the first turn!
It's soo much fun :o)
