From a standing start, yes. I know that counts for something over there in the USA, but OTOH I can't imagine this to happen often. First, you have to be first in line at a traffic light, then you got to have a car pulling up next to you that's worth 'racing', the guy/girl in the other car must want to race you and you must want to risk your clutch, g'box and tires in order to win, ehm, what exactly? Over here it's an unlikely situation to coincide. 0-60 figures are just for bragging down the pub. What counts in real-life situations is how fast you can go from 50-70 or from 70-90.

The most likely testosterone-kind of thing to happen on European roads is the follwoing situation: you're on the outside lane of the motorway behind an overtaking lorry. A sales rep pulls up your rear bumper in his Golf or Passat TDI. If he's had a real bad day at work and you chose to leave some safety distance between your front bumper and the trailer's arse end, he will even try and overtake you at the right, fill the non-existant gap between you and the semi so you have to get on the brakes.

So you've sustained this attack and the truck finally moves over to the right. If you're in a 2-liter petrol car, the TDI driver will be all over you -even if his car is rated at 115 hp and yours at 140, the torque his diesel engine makes in this rev range means he will gain speed at a much faster rate than your petrol engine does, unless you change down to third which makes things rather hectic. So you move over and watch the sales rep fly off to the horizon. If you're in an unmodified Saab 900 Turbo, you can just about hold your own and move over when YOU decide you want to (depending on how attached you are to your driving license).
If you're in a properly tweaked Saab Turbo or an Alpina D10, however,... ;-)

BTW _Auto, Motor Und Sport_ recorded a 6,7 sec 0-100km/h (62 mph) for the Alpina D10.

If you're in an unmodified Saab Turbo, you
