It was a nice drive. 170 miles round trip. The reason I went there, is because my 9-3 had lost its performance. Dan at Abbott traced the problem to a faulty dump valve. With my Viggen sports exhaust and performance filter, they reckon my engine is putting out around 210BHP. I am not bothered about that. It's that kick in the back that I like!
The company is situated next to a very winding road! Apparently, quite a few SAAB visitors crash there, after considering themselves better drivers than they really are...
Greetings to ckpaden from Dan. And Dean was spot on with his diagnosis.
On a more serious note, and the reason I put my message on the Performance board: I raised with Ed, the owner, the question of the high prices fir Abbott's upgrade. He explained that personal visitors always got a discount. Parts that are sold through agents are however subject to sales margins, which most resellers tend to stick to. Abbott has no control over that.
Whilst there, I had a look round in their 360BHP 9-3. Most impressive!
I also heard rumours about a 300BHP 9-3 that SAAB is testing for possible limited production. Various UK tuning companies have been helping out with the project.
My regular SAAB specialist is also an Abbott conversion garage ( http://www.twostroke.co.uk). They are busy fitting a 9-5 Viggen engine into a 9-3 body. It looks good. The buyer apparently saw my car, which came from Two Stroke to Turbo, and wanted the same plus more!
