I'm actually not in the SCCA either, but I am a member of a few other clubs... basically what Hans said is what I would say, buy the SCCA rule books relevant to the type of events you want to run, and buy a couple of good books... the one he recommendes is good, probably the best book you can buy relevant to driving on a track is 'Going Faster', which was produced by the Skip Barber School... you can buy it from them directly (website http://www.skipbarber.com) this is really, really good, though kind of heavy going - it takes a while to get through it all, though an excellent book. I've done the school and I wish I had read the book first, it contains everything in the school, except the seat time (and, at $30, costs around $2,500 less...) Something else that is worth looking into is what other clubs are in your area... SCCA events are usually well run and very popular, but sometimes small clubs run very good events that can actually give you more seat time... if you are interested in doing rallies, there is a webpage called something like findarally.com Good luck and have fun!
