I have detuned! Back to 23-ish psi. Car is kinda crazy in third gear (wants to overrun the wheels, so it is a little darty) 26 psi was WAY too much. Bad idea. I am still trying to detune, actually. Not really sure where to look to take away more boost, though.
1) I found that 22 psi is the end of red, and that ~11 psi = division of yellow and red. I have a seperate VDO boost gauge. If you are sustaining similar levels, I suggest you pick one up. Also, you should seriously get an oil pressure gauge. This is very important! It requires a sending unit, BTW....
2) Detonation: two kinds: audible and inaudible. Mine was audible at 26 psi. Sounds like a crunchy rattle coming from the head/engine; Like someone dropping a bunch of marbles on the floor (a whole box of them!). Inaudible detonation is what kills engines and blows them up. Sufficient fuel can take care of this problem (I run 30# injectors and a RRFPR [finally!]) but not completely. Water Injection is the BEST cure for detonation. Expensive, though. Can't say I've seen anyone use it and be dissatisfied.
Boost is not the only ingredient for speed! 10 psi of efficient boost is way better than 20 psi of garbage boost. The engine can take it, though I highly recommend a new head gasket before embarking on major tuning projects (from the start).
