According to the T5 manual, the ECU's reaction to knock is three-fold and includes retarding timing, enrichening the mixture(!), and finally reducing the boost. Reducing boost was the last resort, probably because it is most noticable. Enriching the mixture, however, seems to play into the voltage divider scheme very handily. Another tuner-friendly feature of the T5 is that it can self calibrate its fuel tables (amongst others) +/-25% from their base settings. I think this is why I can run with the WG set to 1.1 bar (17 psi) w/o knock. Now to get that pesky fuel cut out of the way...
