I finally bit the bullet and traded my '99 9-3 SE HOT 5 dr for the '01 Viggen 3 dr coupe. But before I took my old SE in, I took off the sport exhaust and K&N filter I had installed, since the lease company wouldn't allow me any extra reductions in pay off if left on.

After having driven 28000 miles with them installed, I had competely forgotten how different the performance was versus the original equipment. With the original system installed, the turbo came in at 1800 rpm instead of 2000 with the K&N and sport exhaust, but with the OEM parts the acceleration, power and torque felt much reduced and the turbo lag was noticeably increased. In addition the original exhaust is a lot heavier, that rectangular muffler must weigh about 30 or 40 pounds! The trade off with the stock parts is a much quieter car, but for me the sport exhaust's rich bass was never intrusive and I liked hearing the whoosh from the air box as the turbo came on line - the K&N doesn't dampen the noise like the OEM filter.

I was hoping to transfer the K&N over to my Viggen, but discovered the airbox is different, so I got a new one and of course the Viggen already has the sport exhaust, although it's much quieter than the 9-3 (bigger turbo may be a factor along with better sound proofing perhaps?).

The Viggen has to be the best Saab I have ever owned and I'm planning some performance refinements once I have got used to it, based on the excellent advice on these boards.
