Even so, Hirsch now has a kit for the
T5 9-3 US specs. Courtesy SAAB owner
at US military base that went to Hirsch
which allowed them to do a US spec car.

Anyways...
Nordic achieves most of its power increase
by increasing exhaust gas temp. and hoter
exhaust gases take up more volume and allow
for more effect on the turbine of the turbo.
They also change the exhaust to have less
back pressure and they need to do that
so that the exhaust will survive the higher
temps. They do increase the boost this way.
The drawback is that when you do that, you
could damage valves after some time and as the
intercooler remains the same, the higher boost
that is achieved increases the risk of knocking
which has to be conutered by running the engine
rich when it's needed. This again reduces the
exhaust gas temp. until the engine is cool
enough to run leaner again.

Hirsch goes the other way. By using a K&N filter,
by a very simple mod. of the airbox they increase
the effectivenes of the compressor of the turbo
as it will move more air at same turbo rpm.
Now this requires a larger intercooler for it to
avoid the knocking... the exhaust then only
needs to reduce back pressure a bit so that
the larger amount of exhaust gas can leave
fast enough. As exhaust gas temp. is about the
same, Hirsch does not have to switch between
lean and rich to keep things under control...

In both cases the turbo works harder, but the
Nordic setup submits the turbine to higher temp,
has more knocking risks etc. Now Nordic knows
that, and they will probably recommend a larger
intercooler which fixes that problem.

Overall all these companies know what they are
doing, but some will do some things which
other companies will avoid.

Regards,
Coolknight
