There would not be enough surface area in the intake pipe to do any sort of cooling - better to get hold of an old style all metal IC and get a shop to weld a water jacket on the outside thus turning it into a water /air unit - you would still use your oilcooler idea to cool the water though as Abbott does. My fear with all these water /air units is that you only need a small leak in the core to cause huge damage to the engine - imagine a core full of water which has leaked in overnight - you start the engine, it fills a couple of cylinders with water and out pop your con rods through the crankcase! For all the cost of these units you would be better off investing in a good water injection system which properly addresses the problem of in cylinder temperature.
