what you set with the adjustment screw is base fuel pressure - from there you get a 1.7 bar rise in fuel pressure for every 1 bar rise in manifold pressure. The end result is that fuel pressure is being built up quicker when you give it more throttle (resulting in better throttle response), a higher max fuel pressure reached on turbo applications (which goes a long way towards eliminating lean out at high boost psi/engine rpm) whilst at the same time fuel consumption under normal, gentle driving will be less.
It's a win-win situation, really :-)
