I thought it was unusual. But it was only on my front brakes that a groove had developed. The groove is on the outermost part of the rotor,right where the slot stops- so about 1cm to edge. Maybe it happens to a lot of people - but in this Saab mechanic's opinion - they thought that rotors weren't supposed to wear that way. One theory - these rotors are a softer compound in order to provide more grip - and while the slots effectively cool most of the rotor, the edge of the rotor didn't benefit and stayed hotter and thus wore faster on the edge producing the groove. Now maybe it's normal - but they thought that it would affect the braking performance in the long run (less surface area) I have autocrossed about 8 - 9 times this year but no track time. I knew the pads were wearing because the brake warning light started flashing on around turns.
