Here is a little info on the K-star system that I gathered from an email exchange. - Todd
- Is the K-Star a replacement for the jetronic computer?
K-Star does not replace the K-Jet ignition computer, it takes its 12v, earth and signals from the 7-pin ignition computer (module).
- How does the K-star alter the air/fuel ratio, via the Lamda pulse ratio or through the control pressure? The fuelling side works by altering control pressure via an extra injector (fitted into a special holder to make up a solenoid valve). This loops between the 'in and out' on the control pressure regulator (via 2 extra hoses/banjo fittings), and K-Star then controls the amount of extra fuel at the rpm you've programmed into it (there's a two pin plug on the harness which goes to the extra injector).
- How does the system enrich the mixture when the car is under boost? On turbo's you need to use a M.A.P sensor, you can then map fuelling against boost as well as rpm.
- Can I install it myself?
To fit it yourself you'd need a copy of K-Soft mapping software (usually sold to dealers who have a rolling road). Installing is easy enough if you are accustomed to messing about with fuel connections, but you'd need access to a rolling road (or a long straight highway!) to do the mapping.
- How much does a system cost?.
A system, including K-Star, harness, fuel fitting kit (you'd need to tell us what length hoses, depending on where you wish to site the solenoid valve, and how far this is from the control pressure regulator), injector and holder, and carriage to the U.S, would be $660.00. You'd also need the K-Soft software/comms harness at $144.00. The kit/software comes with instructions.
