reprogrammed. I have an Abbott programed ECU in my '95 Aero-auto.
As measured on a DynoJet, it has 219 HP at the wheels and 258 lb-ft of torque.
That's well above the 217 lb-ft stock.
My Aero now has 108K miles, I put the Abbott ECU in at around 70K miles. So far I have not had
any transmission problems, but I do take it easy on it. I do not let the transmission do full throttle up-shifts
or make it do full throttle downshifts. If I need a lower gear to accelerate, I manually shift it to a lower
gear. If I am accelerating hard in any gear, I lift the throttle and let the transmission shift before it
reaches its normal shift point, buy that time I am usually well over the posted speed.
I use Mobil 1 synthetic ATF, and change it every 10K miles.
Just remember that Saab reduced the torque capability of an auto compared with a 5-speed because
they felt the transmission would not take it.
If you are considering an upgraded ECU, check out one of the Swedish tuners. Their programs
end up being safer for the motor and/or drivetrain than the method used by Abbott.
