NEO, MT90, QS ... Posted by Kevin K [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: NEO 75w90 oil questions, GM, Sun, 20 Jan 2002 16:47:09 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
your man has shifting concerns ...
75W90 QS is a conventional (mineral) GL4 gear oil, low in ep additives vs GL5. It may only be available in 55 gal drums in VW or porsche shops, in the US. GL4's generally shift better than GL5's. GL5 will generally offer better wear protection for brgs and gears in extreme/severe service.
I ran redline's 75W90NS, their recomended GL5 for gear boxes. The NS means not for limited slips, where some extra slippery stuff is prefered to reduce chatter. Shifting was horrid, guarenteed cold crunch 1st time into 2nd.
The NEO had a good rep'n in RX7's. Shifted better than redlines MT90, but not quite as good as MTL. I've had it for few years now, no more 2nd crunch. Search Neo for my other info on it. Like redline MTL/90, it was bended with syncros in mind.
The redline shockproof's are thinner oils with high solids content. developed for max efficency in track conditions. Don't think cold shifts would be very smooth. search shockproof, someone wrote about it.
