I am under the impression that DOT requires amber turn signals and reflectors on the front, and red signals and reflectors on the rear, of passanger vehicles.
Of course, not all state vehicle inspections or police will check or care. The article notes that modification or inadequate amber turn signals and reflectors on the front (and red signals and reflectors on the rear) is illegal "if performed by a manufacturer, distributor, dealer, or motor vehicle repair business". If modifications are made by individual owners, I am not sure if those modifications are deemed illegal.
But see the following link and decide for yourself.
