I have a 88 900 NA. I have 2 1/4 inch exhaust cat back and removed the air box and installed a cone filter on the end of the amm which is attached to the throttle body via the stock tube that has been cut to the right angle as to point the filter towards fresh air. I also have MSD 6Al ignition and magnecor 8.5 wires. I was getting about 28 miles to the gallon highway and city driving and then all the sudden it dropped to about 23 mpg. When i first noticed the plugs were fouled i dropped my gap from 40 thousandths to 32 and this did nothing. A tune up was just recently done. The car also idles high, when you at start it sits about 900 rpms, but as soon as you drive it won't drop below 1,000 then after some driving it idles at 1,100-1,200. Now if i drive on the highway and get off and come to a stop the idle will raise from 1,200 to 1,500 and then fall back down. It does this repeatedly. I have checked throughly for vac. leaks but have found nothing. I don't know if my new filter set up flows too much air or what. I can't figure it out, got a 005 amm and thought I could mabye adjust the mixture with that? Mabye a new O2 sensor? Any ideas would be very helpful. I know many people with turbos who run the same filter i have with no prob.
