Like NickR states, WHY 180? Tire technology is NOT where it was at 10 years ago or even 2 years ago for that matter! In the old days, treadwear of 80-160 was common (RE-71's, AVS Intermediates, etc) & you were LUCKY to get 8,000 miles on a set. Tires with 220+ were almost considered 30,000 mile tires! With the new compounds, many of the ultra high performance tires reach the 300 mark! I have the Yokohama Parada's which if I recall have either a 280 or 300 treadwear & they are the stickiest tire I have used yet! They were also the cheapest in the size I needed & since I blew all my $$$ on the rims, I had to go cheap. But the AVS Sports or Pzero's will probably be my next tires, I have a very limited selection :o( The tires I have, have also done a few drivers schools & have minimal wear. I feel for daily driving, teadwear doesn't matter just stay in the performance category you want. Remember, a 140 treadwear from Pirelli does not mean 140 from Yokohama, Uniroyal,Michelin, Toyo, etc!
If you are talking about race tires, a tire with a treadwear over 100 would get smoked! Toyo RA-1's are on my want/need list, hoosiers are just to dam expensive & don't last as long either :o(
