I am running a 9000 2.3 head on my 86 two door at the moment. Here is the deal: If you want to run a 2.3 head you will need to get one from a 91 to 93 9000, in 94 they changed significantly enough so you cant mount one on an older block. You could also use as 2.1 head as they have the same part number and should be pretty much the same. The difference between a 2.1 head and a 2.0 head lies in the intake side. The intake ports are bigger in diameter and the intake valves are bigger. The exhaust side is no different then the 2.0 litre. You will also need to get a hold of the intake from a 900 2.1 litre motor as its runners will match the 2.3/2.1 head intake ports. As far as cams go, other then the 85 900 turbo cams, the cams are pretty much all the same. I would run the 2.3 intake cam as it has greater lift and duration then the 900 intake cams. I currently run an 89 NA cam in my exhaust, as it has the groove for the distributor. Otherwise if you want to run a newer 9000 cam, you will have to machine the slot in the end for the distributor.
As far as mounting goes, it just drops on without problem. I had a triple angle competition valve job done along with cleaning the head, bead blasting it, and planing it slightly.

One more note on cams. The intake cam on the 2.3 litre has a lift of 8.65mm, and a duration of 60 degrees, openning at 14 deg BTDC, and closing at 46 deg ATDC. You might want to get the specs on the "Red" Cam and compare to this first.
