I just replaced my stock valve this morning. After my experience, I have doubts to the way he (the guy with the hand pump) tested the valve. If the diaphram is split you woudn't know it because he applied equal pressure on both sides! It turned out that my viggen valve was bad already. I looked in the side port to see a small hole in the diaphram. But I still could not blow pressure into the side port?? But I could get suction thru it. I believe that, with the valve seated, the diaphram folds over itself to seal the leak. That's why I believe his applying pressure to the side port even with no vacuum line attached still isn't reliable. Then I pushed the valve open with a socket and plugged the vacuum connection. It quickly closed about 3/4, then slowly closed the rest of the way. It's hard to explain but I think a hole in diaphram will cause erratic operation before it finally self-destructs. Another thing I have to say is, the forge valve will not fit in the stock position. It's about 1/2 inch too large in diameter. I thought about installing it backwards but I wasn't sure if that's good. Normally, the spring and piston are directed torward the pressure port, right?. After seeing your linked pages, kevin, It looks like audi installs them backwards. So maybe that's OK? Since my stock valve was shot I had to make the forge work today. I installed a 90 degree pipe connector where the stock valve mounts. Then I ran a short 93 inch) section of hose up to the forge valve. This will work until I can get it mounted to the intake pipe right before the throttle body, as Kevin suggested, and how cliff has his installed. As far as performance, it seemed to run better but I could'nt floor it much since it's 30 mi/hr zone all the way to this library.
