Your dealer should be able to reprogram the computer with Tech II to account for the different tire size. I thought that capability was added in 00, I will say ask your dealer about it again. However, the difference between your stock tire size 195/60/15 and 215/40/18 will only produce an error of 2.3%, something you could live with.
Why do you want to go 18" ? Bigger is better only up to a certain point. Going to 16 will give you the biggest improvement in handling and bang for the buck. 17" is OK but depending on where you live. If you live in a Metro area with bad road, stay away from it. 18" ? Unless you drive on prefect roads all the time or don't mind bend rims, don't waste your time. BMW and MB are totally different car, some of them comes with 17" (or maybe 18 for the MB AMG) stock so going to 18 is only a plus one change. I have seen Honda with 18" wheel on them, so what ? To me, that doesn't do anything.
