throwing parts and $ at it? if they can hook up a wide band o2 sensor, they can run the car and find out if the mixture is an issue at that rpm range. if they can't, you can put he car on a dyno for between $40 and $100 for one run to check mixture. if it's fine, then look elsewhere. also, you can check initial timing, then hook up hand pump and confirm max retard under full boost (if timing control has been modified).
i would definitely diagnose before throwing parts into the mix. you may be completely fine in one area only to go back to stock and loose a benefit because you "think" it may be a problem. be sure before you change. also, only do one thing at a time, you alter two settings and it gets better, you don't know which one fixed it. think of synergy. multiple things may add up to give you more or less than the cumulative amount. i.e. a vacuum leak and a bad amm can cause more problems or help cancel each other out. you'll only know by checking one thing at a time.
