I am 19 and i live in Albuquerque, New Mexico (go ahead and laugh, i know my town sucks)

Recently I acquired a '95 2.5L V6 900 SE, and i must say that I am totally impressed by the performance of this car. Before this i had an '87 Taurus and it didn't look like much, but i got it to hit 120 mph several times. It's just that acceleration from 0 was never aggressive, and higher speeds were far from smooth. This Saab however makes hauling ass effortless, i love it.

Basically, I'd love to increase the performance of my new car, starting off with the simplest but most efficient modifications possible. I have no real experience in car modification, but i have read many sites and they say the best places to start are the exhaust and air intake. I am not sure if this is so, that's just what I have gathered from my limited research.

My main question is, for between $1000 to $2000 (which is what i can spend right now), what are the best upgrades i can make to this already great vehicle to enhance it's performance? I know newcomers to vehicle customization are not usually treated with great amounts of toleration, but I'd greatly appreciate it if I didn't get some wise-ass responses or quick dismissals. I am genuinely interested in learning about vehicle upgrades in general, and any valid responses to my question would be greatly appreciated. My dad is a fairly able mechanic, and he and his dad used to enter competitions when he was a kid. I just want to get some specific information about Saab 900 upgrades so I can go to him and not sound like a complete idiot. If there are any significant changes i can make to my car, please inform me, and if possible, maybe include a link or two so i can see about getting the appropriate parts.

And if someone thought that i was basically wasting my time in trying to upgrade this particular vehicle, you can go ahead and say so, but give some kind of reasonable explanation. I am trying to learn.

Thanks.
