Have same set up minus modified bvc valve. I fiddled with the rrfpr prior to using a guage to chase a miss under boost issue and did no good. Then i bought a cheap pressure gauge and built a shrader valve adapter to reset rrfpr...ran best back where it was set by spg9. CW pressure higher/CCW pressure lower. Problem turned out to be eroded plug gaps with 10k miles on plugs.
For your lean running problem, the first thing I would do is pull the O2 sensor plug to see if the idle settles down. A new O2 sensor can sometimes work wonders. The next thing I would do is swap in a known good AMM. If you are getting audible knock, I don't think the problem is just typical boost/knock sensor knock. One more thought, possible leak in diaphram on distributor adv/retard unit. Suck and blow on hose.
Also, I'll bet you'll still knock if you set timing to 14btdc but worth a try jsut to see what happens.
