9000 2,3 FPT down pipe

I bought a spare down pipe from a junk yard. The plan is to buy a 3" race cat and modify the "new" stock down pipe to 3" from the first "welded" 150 degree bend on. I have a 2,5" cat back system, Chip Center stg 1 ECU, K&N and a butchered air box.
Any comments on the down pipe project? I would assume I'd get not all, but most of the benefit (or reduced back pressure) compared to a JT3" down pipe for example. I know the first bend is thight, but...
