Changing exhaust + downpipe with the same catalyst

I'm planning on getting the sport exhaust (from Saabcatalog) for my 9-3.
Does anyone know the diameter??
I also want to get a bigger downpipe. Getting rid of the catalyst is out of the question. Will it be OK to change the whole exhaust, but leave the stock catalyst, or will the downpipe's effect be negated by this restriction?
Thanks in advance
