at the gas station on the way home...

Spent the day at Viking Saab today taking care of Club (Wassaab) business, but also picking up the Trent/Malpassi RRFPR for my '88 SPG.

Started the day at Viking running into CKPADEN. We borrowed Eric's "Special Saab Tool", the huge calibrated boost gauge and went for a quick drive before the club meeting.

Mike Heyse had sold me his older SPG (NO not WASSAAB, but a black '88 SPG) but before selling it to me had "tweaked" the APC and solenoid valve...

Yeah! Tweaked!

19PSI of boost tweaked!

I had feared that it was running lean, and at 19 lbs, with stock injectors and FPR, I know the Trent RRFPR would smooth that out...

Sure enough, now with the RRFPR, still with stock injectors, no longer run into knock/boost retard. IT GOES!

My '97 Talladega has only 17, maybe 18 lbs of boost, however it comes on at around 1800 RPM, whereas the SPG comes on at about 3500 - 4000.

I thought all in all it was a good day. My drive home is about 2 hours from Viking. Less than a mile from my house is a Shell gas station -- this a lonely country station on the way to Skyline Drive in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. The absolute LAST place I would have expected to see a bright yellow Lamorghini Diablo.

Young kid, no more that 25 or so. Nice ride. I know, many prefer Ferarri's, possibly Porsche's, but the sheer rarity, exclusivity of finding a Diablo so close to home capped a great day.

Special thanks to Jay Howard and Eric Heyse at Viking for helping install the RRFPR, for Mike Heyse, our newly elected President of WASSAAB (Washington D.C. Area Saab Club) for getting the Trent group buy started, and of course for Scott Patterson putting on a great forum to do this kind of research and technical sharing!

It's a great Saab day!
