a recent idea I had was to install a cutout with a remote opener. They sell them with simple cable driven valves. Install the jt downpipe, cutout, reduce back down to stock cat. Best of both worlds. Another exhaust trick is variable backpressure. Autospeed.com had an article on a valve that can be driven by a wastegate. With some control logic they were able to open the restriction with wot, boost pressure or vacume for NA vehicles.
