Search for drs<underscore>lub on the NG900 BB.
A 97SET had a complete oil gunk up when STP was added to synthetic oil. I don't know if that was grpIII(syntec) or full synthetic like Mobil One. That engine was scrapped.
I suggest that you engine might have lots of crud from the syno oil that the synthetic or blend migh free up.
I would add some stuff to the oil that frees up sticking rings, then drain that oil after a week or 100 miles or so. Do this with an oil flush and follow the directions. Don't drive up ramps with that in the oil first. Don't put a load on the engine.
Then get a full synthetic heaver grade oil. A 15-40 or something like that. I don't know whats on the shelf in Mobil One.
I am using Mobil Delvac One (5W40) in my 95SET, because I need it on hand for the 97Passat TDI diesel. I noticed that the engine was quieter and smoother than with the Mobil One 10W30. The 95SET never seemed noisy before, but it is quieter now.
You might have stuck piston rings. Those may free up and reseat.
