Timing Advance...

How much advance is too much advance? So I did my timing the other day, and as it was, with timing set to 16 BTDC (no vacuum on unit), Timing advanced to 30 BTDC by 10 Hg/In vac. Is that right? How advanced can I get away with? I'm assuming my APC will show knock (I have an LED wired) at any pressure/rpm. I'm not concerned with the boost retard, as I'm using a boost timing master...
Thanks,
Simon S
