I've been drag racing on my street tires (killed a set of Yoko A520s in a hurry). One, and one only time I did it on my Michelin Pilot Sports. These tires are so damn expensive that I will not be dragging on them any more!
For street legal drag tires that are really only to be used at the track, check out BF Goodrich drag radials, or Hossier Drag Radials. Hoosier also makes a very good autocross tire.
GM is right, smaller diameter is better in this situation, but larger width would be good ont he front. Saab made a set of 15 x 7 rims that would work well in this application. Mustang GT rims would also work (same size, I believe, for the years that fit Saabs). The 15 spokes that came with your 9K are actually very light (one of the lightest Saab wheels), which is another issue to keep in mind for drag racing. Saabs are heavy beasts!
Good luck,
Mike
